How to Accessorize on a Budget

How to Accessorize on a Budget

Recently I shared on the gram that I’m honestly OVER buying everything brand new. For the longest time I associated the concept of “new” with being THE BEST but I’ve realized that’s just not true and quite frankly unrealistic! Life as an adult, running my own business, adventuring around NYC and managing expenses requires prioritized spending—and if I’m REALLY real, shopping weekly for the latest fast fashion piece I’ll style once or twice just doesn’t cut it.

Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE mixing up my wardrobe with new-to-me, standout items. But instead of budget breaking spending, I’ve transitioned into a more sustainable mentality; I’m now taking advantage of shopping pre-loved items through wardrobe rental! Not only does this add “new” back into my wardrobe but it also allows me budget-friendly access to brands my favorite celebs and style crushes wear daily!

But with the wardrobe rental business growing, where do you start?

WELL…

Having consolidated my closet to a capsule wardrobe of key items and statement pieces, I’ve found accessorizing allows me to make outfits new, different, and interchangeable. And the key accessory here for me is jewelry! Statement jewelry is the perfect way to mix up a look while adding an expression of unique taste and personality! SOOOO that makes my go-to for rentals an EASY choice…

RED CARPET ROCKS!

Red Carpet Rocks is a subscription-free, demi-fine (meaning a combination of fine and costume jewelry) 4 day rental service providing hand-made jewels, precious stones, and other red carpet level jewels for $39! Yes. You read that price correctly! Just as the name would lead you to believe, these pieces are high-end, yet still interchangeable between special events, a day at the office or a night out with friends! Though I’ve sported the UNBELIEVABLE Rihanna Crystal Choker and absolutely ROCKED the Cindy Tassel Earrings, my favorite Red Carpet Rocks rental so far is the Bianca Bib Necklace! This statement necklace is not only the perfect beaded compliment to a cocktail dress but also adds a bit of high-end glam to a denim and Tshirt combo! And if that isn’t cool enough, the Red Carpet Rocks owner Urvi and her team are there for you every step of the rental process, adding a personalized touch to your new favorite statement piece!

So if you’re like me and in search of a budget-friendly way to add celeb level glam to an everyday look, OR you have an endless list of upcoming events this sunny season, check out Red Carpet Rocks! Remember, no single item is over $39! With both FREE shipping AND returns, rent one fabulous jewel for $39, 2 pieces for $59 or 3 for $79! AND right now when you join the Red Carpet Rocks email list, you earn 10% off your first order!

Rent. Rock. Return.

New Year, New(ish) Wardrobe: MUST Shop Semi Annual Sales

New Year, New(ish) Wardrobe: MUST Shop Semi Annual Sales

I know it’s cliche to say but seriously…how is it 2019? This holiday season was a whirlwind AND honestly the very best yet. I firmly believe in foreshadowing, and this season has simply been preparation for an incredible year ahead.

*Attempting* to be Timely for NYE (and 2019)

*Attempting* to be Timely for NYE (and 2019)

Chatting with my mom the other day, she reminded me what a last minute/procrastinator I CAN be.  Honestly I took the accusation quite personally (acting as if I wasn’t already aware).  For a second I let those words creep in (that second can do a lot of damage) and  began to question my self worth on the small fact that I tend to arrive exactly on time or 5 fashionable minutes late to almost everything.  My poor mother-she taught me to be at least 25 minutes early, always.

My Black Friday MUST HAVES

My Black Friday MUST HAVES

Not only is Thanksgiving TOMORROW (crazy, right?) but every fashionistas favorite holiday is right around the corner too!

I am religiously a Black Friday shopper.  To be honest, even when I was working in retail I shopped Black Friday sales before or after my shift (if you love a great piece at an even better price, you understand)!  But for me, although the prices are unbeatable, Black Friday shopping is more than shopping; it is a time for me to spend chatting and laughing with my cousins and close friends who are crazy enough to stand by my side in outrageous lines at 2 a.m.

From London to New York- TopShop IT @ Nordstrom

From London to New York- TopShop IT @ Nordstrom

So if you’ve visited A Grim Sense of Style before, you likely know my obsession with New York City.  BUT did you know that before New York there was London?  That’s right. Flash back four and a half years (it’s crazy to think it was that long ago!)- I was living abroad while studying at the UAL: London College of Fashion. I would not trade that experience for the world!

London had its tough moments.  My school was on Oxford Street where ALL the high end retailers were located, so I’m sure you can imagine my struggle as a broke student.  But of course, I didn’t let that stop me!  Like clockwork after fashion class I would pop in the stores to simply collect inspiration.  As a true fashionista I am unashamed to admit this remains one of my favorite memories.

Autumn Essentials Part 2: Winter Dresses

Autumn Essentials Part 2: Winter Dresses

GOOD NEWS-Alongside Part 2 of my Autumn Essentials collection comes much more “Fally” weather!  Leaves are lining the streets of the city, and fall fashion is ruling the sidewalks like a runway.  We are living in perfect temperatures where sweaters and light jackets can be worn without sweating like crazy or shivering from the cold…and this is reason number 76,982,345 dresses are my go to for fall!

On the same fall shopping spree at which I scored my go-to fall blazer from Part 1 of this series, I stumbled upon this dress.  I was hesitant to try on this sweater dress because…well…it’s a sweater dress and I found myself asking “are sweater dresses even cool anymore?”.
