It still is SO crazy to believe that after 8 years together and a 4 year long engagement, I FINALLY married my best friend. And as excited as I am to share details of our intimate celebration, I am more excited to FIRST share with you our journey to getting here.
My tips and tricks to outfitting for fashion week that can be used everyday, too!

Tee shirts with dressy bottoms? Yay or nay?
I’m spilling the tea (or should I say Cola) on styling your favorite tees!
There have been some major mixed reviews on this trend within the industry and as a HUGE supporter of it (I shared a sneak peak of this love in My Monthly Style Roundup), I want to share my favorite ways to create a look like this!
The current tee trend revolves around pairing two unexpected items for a dressy casual look; dressy bottoms like silky skirts, suit shorts, or dressy pants outfitted with a casual tee shirt . Though pairing the unexpected is key to rocking this trend, it is important to find the right top to casually compliment the dressier bottom. Though I’m a BIG fan of sporting oversized men’s T-shirt’s, to score on this trend you must find a happy medium. Pairing a silky skirt or pant with a TOO oversized top will appear sloppy. Instead opt for small men’s tees or a fitted woman’s tee tucked or tied at the waist for a similar esthetic.
So, when is it appropriate to style and sport your favorite graphic or band tee? I would argue it depends what you pair together and the way you style the overall look. For a brunch date to Sunday’s in Brooklyn, I styled my new favorite Lucky Brand Coca-Cola tee with a pair of dressy, wide leg Zara bottoms and Shein platforms. This made for the PERFECT combo of dressy, cool, and casual! Though I wouldn’t suggest this particular style for the workplace, traditionally dressy brands like Anthropologie are pairing tees and skirts for the upcoming fall season leading me to believe the right pair can be worn ANYWHERE!
Though this is the first time I paired my new top from one of my FAVORITE boutiques in Central Pennsylvania (of course I stopped in The Little Black Dress during my visit) with these dressy black pants, I look forward to seeing how many different ways I can style the top. I’d love to see it paired with bold color or patterned satin midi skirt and strappy heels, a suit and chunky sneakers, and of course a classic pair of denim.
How will you style your favorite tee?
P.s. this post is NOT sponsored by Coca-Cola, I just really LOVE it!!
It’s FINALLY SUMMER and with summer comes one very important wardrobe mission-to curate outfits that are cute and exude confidence all while remaining cool in this crazy heat! Let’s be honest, one poorly planned outfit can mean makeup melting off your face amidst thigh chaffing, and girrrrl no one needs THAT!
As I shared in my May Monthly Style Roundup, summer sets and jumpers are ALWAYS a summer go-to of mine, but recently I’ve enjoyed wearing a new piece that is just as trendy and airy as my favorites…WIDE LEG PANTS
Wide Leg Pants
An alternative to another day of wearing uncomfortable shorts, wide leg pants are a breezy, trendy, and comfy outfit option for summer days. ESPECIALLY in light weight materials like linen and chiffon, wide leg pants make for a (literally) cool statement bottom. Typically in bold prints and colors, wide leg pants add a bit of playful sophistication to a basic tank top or T-shirt (even though they feel like wearing pajama bottoms!). Wide leg pants like this leopard print pair from Urban Outfitters are perfect for both a shorter, curvy figure like mine AND a tall, more straight through body style. Many women my height (5’1) with my curvy body type shy away from wide leg pants, feeling drowned in too much material. But the opposite actually happens as the wide leg pant sinches the waist and lengthens shorter builds (especially when paired with a platform sandal or block heel). But flowing wide leg pants also follow the shape of longer legs and hit the floor just perfectly when styled with a flat strappy sandal. Paired with a cropped or shorter top and a confident attitude—wide leg pants are truly a bottom for EVERY body type.

How introducing Mystic Tan into my beauty regime has taken my body confidence to the next level.
If you’ve been following along here at A Grim Sense of Style, you’ve likely realized how important viewing ourselves beautifully is to me. To be honest, I’m not quite sure exactly how I became so confident or when it really happened. But I am sure that over the years I’ve learned to love myself through a range of sizes, shapes and mental states. And you know what? I’m really, REALLY proud of that.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve ALWAYS loved my curves even before the Kardashian’s made it cool (thank you Kim), but we all have our moments, am I right? I’ve observed over the years that as we get older our bodies change suddenly (something I’ve REALLY had to come to terms with having PCOS) and it can be a struggle to embrace a “new” version of you.Continue reading “Why a faux tan DOES NOT equal faux confidence”
Have the confidence to wear whatever you want, whenever and wherever you want.
So often readers, friends and strangers say to me “I love your outfit but I could NEVER wear that.”
I find this statement SO interesting as I’ve rarely been one to not wear something I love.Continue reading “Clothing & Confidence”
Turning disadvantage into advantage.
I’m about to get REALLY REAL with y’all and talk about something I’ve NEVER discussed on A Grim Sense of Style. Actually, I’ve hardly talked about it with even the closest people in my life. But I’m sharing this story with YOU in hopes that it brings you encouragement to push through the “circumstances” you have allowed to hold you back.Continue reading “Overcoming Circumstance”
