At the kick-off of February, I shared with you that though the “month of love” is the PERFECT time to celebrate the loves of your life, it’s also the BEST time to rekindle your love for YOU!
But what about when the month revolving around love comes to an end?
While I was recently speaking at a women’s event, I discussed the power of celebrating ourselves. But throughout this conversation a few ladies interjected they are often shamed for feeling TOO good about themselves.
…it’s almost as if society (and unfortunately other women) build us up yet wrong us when we are confident in who we are.
And just like that, New York Fashion Week has come and gone (AGAIN!)
February is fashion month (I know, that happened fast right?) and I’m still on a high from last season! September’s NYFW was the VERY best yet, not only providing me the opportunity to attend a dozen INCREDIBLE shows, but it was a space to network with inspiring and empowering women in the industry, too!
And don’t worry, this season has lived up to the expectation AND MORE!
Is it just me, or is it one of those holidays you either love or hate? And more often than not, your opinion of the day revolves around your relationship status, right?
(Now I’m not sure if as a married woman it’s “appropriate” to ask this but…) Why is it that we allow our relationship(s) with other people to impact the the way we love ourselves? What about YOU? What about the love you have for YOU? That MUST stand for something, right?
Is it just me or is winter the BEST yet most difficult season to dress for? I LIVE for layers, but I’m also ALWAYS hot! Temperatures fluctuate like crazy in the city, especially when hopping on and off the subway and back and forth between buildings!
The truth is, I’ve left my Brooklyn brownstone TOO many times wearing too many or too little layers. And let me tell you, I do not regret much but I ALWAYS regret that! But not to worry, I’ve learned from my mistakes and promised myself NO MORE WARDROBE REGRETS making me feel less than in 2020!
So, what is THE addition to my wardrobe saving me this season?
How writing out your dreams into an actionable plan leads to success…
Okay, I know it sounds too easy and very cheesy but when you set goals, write them down, and REALLY plan them out, dreams DO come true!
Let me explain…
It’s 2020! And on New Year’s Day I spent my time reviewing the goals I had set for myself in 2019. WOW, was that ever a rewarding experience! At the start of 2019 I FINALLY applied the advice of SO many successful women; I wrote down my goals. This list of goals spent the entire year prominently displayed on the front of my planner, reminding me of my purpose DAILY. If I’m REALLY honest, this small action truly defined the trajectory of 2019 and led to so much success!
EVERY outfit I wore and show Iattended this season!
At the close of every New York Fashion Week season I am continually overwhelmed with emotions! I am so grateful to be a part of such a creative and inspirational industry and am even more thankful for THIS community created by each of you!
I’m spilling the tea (or should I say Cola) on styling your favorite tees!
There have been some major mixed reviews on this trend within the industry and as a HUGE supporter of it (I shared a sneak peak of this love in My Monthly Style Roundup), I want to share my favorite ways to create a look like this!
The current tee trend revolves around pairing two unexpected items for a dressy casual look; dressy bottoms like silky skirts, suit shorts, or dressy pants outfitted with a casual tee shirt . Though pairing the unexpected is key to rocking this trend, it is important to find the right top to casually compliment the dressier bottom. Though I’m a BIG fan of sporting oversized men’s T-shirt’s, to score on this trend you must find a happy medium. Pairing a silky skirt or pant with a TOO oversized top will appear sloppy. Instead opt for small men’s tees or a fitted woman’s tee tucked or tied at the waist for a similar esthetic.
So, when is it appropriate to style and sport your favorite graphic or band tee? I would argue it depends what you pair together and the way you style the overall look. For a brunch date to Sunday’s in Brooklyn, I styled my new favorite Lucky Brand Coca-Cola tee with a pair of dressy, wide leg Zara bottoms and Shein platforms. This made for the PERFECT combo of dressy, cool, and casual! Though I wouldn’t suggest this particular style for the workplace, traditionally dressy brands like Anthropologie are pairing tees and skirts for the upcoming fall season leading me to believe the right pair can be worn ANYWHERE!
Though this is the first time I paired my new top from one of my FAVORITE boutiques in Central Pennsylvania (of course I stopped in The Little Black Dressduring my visit) with these dressy black pants, I look forward to seeing how many different ways I can style the top. I’d love to see it paired with bold color or patterned satin midi skirt and strappy heels, a suit and chunky sneakers, and of course a classic pair of denim.
How will you style your favorite tee?
