GIRL, don’t be shocked (I’m well aware this is unpopular opinion), but if you’ve followed along with me for a holiday season or two, you likely know I’m not a huge holiday gal. But that doesn’t mean I don’t support YOUR holiday obsession! And though I refuse to buy into the heightened purchasing pressures that go hand-in-hand with the holidays, I do recognize it is a beautiful time to show appreciation to loved ones by gifting them something special.
But how often do you actually gift something special?
Because time, money, and lack of creative ideas frequently get in the way of REALLY showing your appreciation, I’ve curated a collection of EMPOWERING, meaningful gifts you’ll give excitedly this season (and they’re gifts that support small or female run businesses too)!
1. Body Positive / Body Normative Candles
Whether here on the blog, at a Ditch the Clique event, or on Instagram, I PREACH body positivity and the power of reminding yourself how beautiful your body is NOW! I personally do so by writing down what I love when I look in the mirror (and by later posting it on my mirror for those less-than-great body image days). But because you can’t exactly gift the empowered women in your life with those notes, why not gift her a candle reminding her of her beautiful body instead?
I discovered body positive candles when the London based Etsy shop “Trippy Tuesday“ released their collection earlier this year. And yes, I recognize body image candles were already on the market BUT designs representing REAL bodies were nonexistent at the time! So to make us all feel seen, Trippy Tuesday created their own body normative burnable figurines and GIRL, I’m OBSESSED!
Once a month, Trippy Tuesday duo Ruth and Sam release a collection of 200-300 candles on their Etsy shop. These designs include 4 diverse body types (Pholiotina, Mycena, Galerina, and Plutonia), all curvy, colorful, and beautiful in their own way. But if you’re unsure the best fit for the empowered woman on your list, Trippy Tuesday has curated a body normative mini’s set representing all 4 body types in the collection for just $40!
Listen, I don’t need a reason to wear Figleaves…EVER! But I’ll take any chance I get to tell you why you should wear the brand (AND gift it too)!
If you don’t already know, Figleaves is a London based loungewear, swimwear, and intimate brand “believing every women, whatever her shape or size should enjoy the transformative power of great fitting lingerie and swimwear.” And GIRL, I’m OBSESSED with wearing and gifting Figleaves for a few reasons (and it’s not just because I am a #FriendofFigleaves partner)…
I LOVE Figleaves because they represent and sell to REAL women with REAL bodies. They do this not only by selling extended sizes in colors and patterns women want to wear (not just the boring neutrals), but by featuring women of ALL sizes as models, too! Figleaves items are priced affordably and outlast one-and-done lingerie by a mile, making their items absolutely worth gifting!
But don’t worry- I understand every empowered woman on your gifting list may not be wishing for lingerie! So to make gifting to your mother-in-law or blogger-bestie less awkward, opp for a holiday classic: pajamas!
Figleaves super soft loungwear sets, silky classic duos, and comfy jumpsuits are the PERFECT gift to remind the empowered woman on your list it’s possible to love her body, relax, and simultaneously run the WORLD! But if figuring out her fit is TOO much pressure for you, that’s okay too! You can send her a Figleaves e-giftcard at an amount that’s right for YOU!
3. Effie’s Paper
As told in my “How to Map Out Morning Pages” blog post (and SO many more), I firmly believe in the power of writing things down. Whether listing out goals for the upcoming month or writing my daily manifestation statement, I KNOW that when I write my dreams down they are ACTIVATED and ACHIEVABLE! And GIRL, I don’t know about YOU but THAT is the kind of power I want to gift the empowered women in my life!
So to encourage activating dreams, consider gifting the gal on your list an inspiring collection of “stationary & whatnot” from Effie’s Paper.
Effie’s Paper is a black woman owned stationary & whatnot brand inspiring creativity with on trend accessories for work, travel, and daily life! For me, Effie’s Paper not only means my dreams look cuter on paper, but the notebooks and notepads inspire me to dive deeper into my goals with checklists and organizers too. A few of my favorite items shown below come in under $20, making them the perfect standalone gift, or last minute add on item. Whether you’re gifting to a small business owner, a new mom, your goal-getting bestie, or your boss, she’s bound to be empowered by Effie’s Paper!
4. Julie Mollo Glitter Clutches
GIRL you know I’m always REALLY real with you, so I know you’ll believe me when I tell you I JUST discovered Julie Mollo Glitter Clutches and am already SO in obsessed! Though I was originally attracted to the brand upon discovering the “I Love New York Small Business Bag”, my obsession only grew after shopping her clutches, makeup bags, totes, and other customizable items!
