Why a faux tan DOES NOT equal faux confidence

How introducing Mystic Tan into my beauty regime has taken my body confidence to the next level.

If you’ve been following along here at A Grim Sense of Style, you’ve likely realized how important viewing ourselves beautifully is to me. To be honest, I’m not quite sure exactly how I became so confident or when it really happened. But I am sure that over the years I’ve learned to love myself through a range of sizes, shapes and mental states. And you know what? I’m really, REALLY proud of that.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve ALWAYS loved my curves even before the Kardashian’s made it cool (thank you Kim), but we all have our moments, am I right? I’ve observed over the years that as we get older our bodies change suddenly (something I’ve REALLY had to come to terms with having PCOS) and it can be a struggle to embrace a “new” version of you.

But do you know what else I’ve learned? I’ve learned that when we face ourselves at EVERY state, even our “worst”, we grow! And team, I’ve really been growing. To be honest, I’ve been feeling my VERY best lately. It took A LOT of work to get here. I don’t shop or dance the night away as often as I once did, I do EVERYTHING for my business which is on my mind 24/7, and I’ve really streamlined my circle of friends. To be honest, I’m completely okay with these changes. Because since cutting out the “extra” in my life I’ve discovered the most authentic, beautiful version of myself.

Even in viewing myself as beautifully as ever, I still have THOSE moments. And in embracing these moments I’ve unleashed MY power to do something to change my negative thoughts. Most recently I shared on Instagram that though I love my curvy, dimpled figure I often find myself disappointed over my VERY fair complexion, so much so that I keep myself from wearing styles I LOVE. But rather than continuous comparing and complaining, I’ve taken my confidence (and glow) to the next level.

Mystic Tan

Now you all have heard me say it about makeup but let me be clear.  I DO NOT believe changing my appearance to meet societal standards is the answer to living a more confident life. But I DO believe in enhancing my already beautiful features to feel like the most confident, beautiful version of myself.

Being SUPER fair complected and protective of my skin, I quite literally BATHE in SPF in the warmer months. I rarely stray from my pasty shade unless its a hint of too-much-sun, not-enough-SPF red. I’m not a sunshine tan kind of gal, but still love to be a bit more glowy in the warmer months! To achieve this without tanning, I’ve tried COUNTLESS self tanners over the years, but my fair skin always ends up a shade of orange rather than the glowing tan imagined. But through a killer partnership, I discovered Mystic Tan Protect + Tan 2 in 1 Sunscreen and Gradual Self Tanner as my go-to for a natural, faux tan. In addition to spraying on clear and gradually tanning skin over time, Mystic Tan also acts as a 50 SPF! Quite literally my PERFECT match! This spray-on gradual self tanner doesn’t appear streaky like many AND has odor protection, keeping it from having that common (and gross) self tanner scent. In fact if it has a smell at all, it’s one of beach-side daydreams. Shopable at Target and Target.com, Mystic Tan has given me the confidence to wear EXACTLY what I want AND love my curvy body even more!
