How to Make Your Bad Day Better

Let’s be honest (because that’s all we are here at DTC)…as much as we may wish it were, not everyday is a good day.

But what do you do when your day is less than you dreamed?

Well GIRL, lucky for us I have a few tried & true tricks up my sleeve to almost instantly improve your good day, bad day, and everyday in between.

Keep reading for tips to creating a bad day plan that works for YOU!!!

First, count your blessings

I’m confident you’ve heard this old wise suggestion from your parents or mentor before, but I wonder…have you ever actually tried it?

When I first began taking things with Ditch the Clique seriously, one of my best friends offered me this advice but with a twist. She suggested taking note of EVERY. SINGLE. BLESSING/kind word/win/accomplishment on the good days, for review on the not so good days. So I did just that! Fast forward a few years and I now have a hand written collection and digital accumulation of ALL my blessings and wins! And GIRL I can’t express to you how helpful this has been for me on the days I begin to believe the lie that THIS is all the further I’ll go.

But to get REALLY real in helping you create a system that works for YOU, let me tell you EXACTLY what you’ll find in this “blessings” collection of mine!

Whether it be in my physical or digital collection, I’ve taken note of EVERY win over the past few years. Each win looks different. Some have been recognized by friends, family, and clients in handwritten notes, digital reviews of DTC COMMUNITY, or thank you emails. While others are dreams I’ve worked damn hard to achieve, written down and recognized by me! But regardless of who it’s from or where it’s stored, keeping note of my wins and blessings has been crucial for navigating the bad days! Because GIRL, there is nothing that inspires me to get out of a funk more than looking back over what I’m proud of doing or how I’ve positively impacted someone’s life.

But remember! For me this looks like a literal folder (both physical and digital) , but for YOU it may be different! In fact, after sharing this method with a COMMUNITY member during our weekly one on one Ditch the Clique COMMUNITY chat, she created her own method – stores her blessings and wins in a jar in her work space! For her, this looks writing each blessing down IN THE MOMENT and throwing it in the jar. Every morning, she mixes up the jar and pulls out a blessing for review and ALWAYS leaves inspired by her blessings and wins!

My point here? No matter what it looks like for YOU, I guarantee counting your blessings is an awesome way to turn your not so great day around!

Collect quotes

And speaking of digital collections…

You’ve likely noticed I’m a fan of all things INSPIRATIONAL!!! In fact, I love inspiring words SO much that I have a collection of them saved to my computer, hand written in my journal, and in my Instagram saves! You never know when you might need a bad day boost.

And now I know this may sound like my last tip to “count your blessings” but GIRL I swear it’s a bit different (and in the BEST way)!

Rather than this being an inspiring collection of my wins, this is an accumulation of motivational messages. Often these are “one liners” that are an easy but incredibly empowering read for THE moment a day turns south. For me, the easiest place to store and access these words is in my Instagram Saves AND on Pinterest. Having these words saved digitally in easily accessible apps makes rediscovering my inspiration on a bad day that much better! Sometimes a quick reminder of who you are and what it is you’re capable of is THE boost you need to get back on track!

Trash It

If you’ve ever attended a Ditch the Clique event, you’ve likely learned the power of Trash It. But if you haven’t, GIRL let me explain…

Years ago, when I was in a season of repeated bad days, I unexpectedly created Trash It as a way to literally trash the lies I tell myself that keep me from achieving. I recognize words are powerful and activated when written down, so I started writing down the lies I noticed myself believing about me on the bad days. After acknowledging and writing them down, I literally ripped them apart and threw them in the trash to signify they are no longer a part of me!

Was that ever empowering!!!

Because I found this method so useful, it’s since become a signature at EVERY Ditch the Clique event, empowering women just like YOU to trash the lies they start believing on the bad days! Sometimes trashing a lie once is all you need, other times it’s on repeat and THAT’S OKAY. This method allows you to verbally and visually define the lie, making the path to no longer believing it much smoother!
